JOHN RANKIN WADDELL
World-renowned photography Rankin has shot everyone from refugees to royalty. His work is a merge of his own personal interests and commercial campaigns, his images being powerful and part of contemporary iconography, displayed in galleries around the globe.
Rankin co-founded the controversial fashion magazine Dazed & Confused alongside Jefferson Hack. The magazine became one of the most iconic and important magazines of the 90's, nurturing designbers and the careers of creative photographers, much like Rankin himself.
Rankins creative portrature and spirit easrned him a reputation and a formiddable force in photography, shooting prestegious Pop icons such as Madonna and Kylie. Rankin's career spread onto the pages of German Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and GQ magazine.
Having a huge archive body of work, Rankin has shot the most influential of people including musicians, models, politicians, sportsmen and even the Queen of England as well as his hard-hitting campaigns for charities such as Oxfam and Women's aid, which are a few of many.
Rankin's work has been published in numerous texts and books, including a retrospective of his work, 'Visually Hungry', a collection of his most recognisable portraits Celebritation.
In addition to his career in photography, Rankin's talent has expanded and led him to co-direct music videos, commercials and feature films.

I am inspired by Rankin's controversial and innovative ways to develop photography and push the bounderies for other photographers. I definetly want to consider Rankin's work when creating my own magazine, I feel that his art-driven shoots are extremely effective and eyecatching. This is a quality that I find to be very useful on a magazine cover, much like this Dazed&Confused covershoot by Rankin of Beth Ditto for 'Dazed & Confused'.
