Magazine Moodboard/Inspiration.

Using Animoto.com, I have created a moodboard to inspire me and showcase my initial ideas for my magazine. I have included researched images of both music & fashion magazine covers, Double Page Spreads, Contents pages, Magazine masheads/fonts and fashion & music related photography. I enjoyed using this software as it was simple to understand and I like how you can add your own music and personalise the finished video.

Magazine Covers.

Music

The music magazine covers I have chosen relate to the genre of rock & alternative music, my chosen genre. I have included two covers from 'Q' magazine as I find that the simplistic and classic layout they use is very effective and memorable - a good trait for a magazine. The issue with Lady Gaga on the cover is also very controversial, she is posing half nude with her finger in her trousers, this is a play on the media and to overcome the stories written about her. This is risky but its controversial aesthetic will sell magazines.

Fashion

The Fashion magazines I have chosen are all very alternative and art influenced. Magazine covers I have used, especially the 'Dazed&Confused' and 'Pop' magazines relate to this. I want my magazine to be primarily about music but also to have some fashion and youth culture influence, I feel that to look at these magazines and gather inspiration from them would be a good idea.

Contents Pages & DPS

I have used contents pages in my moodboard to show how I am inspired by layout, images, and the use of a colour palette. I have found from my moodboard that a lot of music magazines follow a similar colour palette of red, black and white. This is a colour palette I could possibly consider when producing my magazine although I would still want to make it stand out above the rest on a magazine shelf so maybe a unique colour palette would be best suited.

Mastheads & Fonts

I particularly like the 'Dazed&Confused' masthead here, I feel that the boldness of the font allows the magazine to be as art-driven as they like with it still being clear of what magazine it is. I think that a bold masthead is best suited for a magazine, this is something I want to consider when searching for my main font.

Photography

The photography I have included in my moodboard consist of a lot of mid-shots. This is a definite when I am shooting my cover as I feel that eye contact can be easily maintained with an audience which can also attract them into buying my magazine. I feel that the styling of the model will reflect that of some of the models seen in the photos here. The photograph of Josh Beech with a cigarette in his mouth and his head looking over his tattooed arm is most inspirational to me. I feel that the expression on his face is natural, masculine but not too harsh and appealing to a female audience also. This is something I want to bear in mind on my shoot when directing my model.
